BEWARE OF DOG HE IS VERY SARCASTIC

...some really good laughing going on here..

 Garden à la française
Spring Garden.

Making some good garden progress, some things died due to total garden neglect and knowledge but more importantly making farmer friends...so please share your wise advice ;)  Growing all kinds of exciting things lettuce, raspberries/strawberries, blackberries (but not doing very well), garlic, snow peas, turnips, carrots, beans, tomatoes, small bok choy, broccoli, radishes (bolted and went woody),  Anise (not growing), cabbage (something is eating holes in leaves), various herbs of course, cucumbers, no potatoes because of potato bugs and don't want to pick those off., slugs are enough to deal with..and well lots of weeds! (oh well). Glad I don't have any deer or rabbits..(yet)...now I understand why farmers like guns...would be lots of work if a animal came and ate the top of everything and hopped away...

why do my roses look like this?

hmmm yummy raspberries..last year no berries..so pretty proud of this...

What is eating holes in this???

  1. Finally got to wireless so I could check out your photos!
Raspberries look awesome- berries don't grow on new stalks so they may just have needed time.
I tried one cabbage once and it got eaten by cabbage worms that were so gross I haven't tried since. Will this winter though. Whatever bugs are eating the cabbage leaves may not bother the actual cabbage, but you can use a soap or garlic spray (just google the measurements) and coat the plant. I used Neem oil on my beans before which is super effective but try soap first.
If you can take a magnifying glass and identify the pests you have and read about them online, you will be able to find ways to possibly deter them next year by planting things that attract those specific bugs. A lot of bugs can be taken care of with a hose too. If you 'google image' holes in particular plant leaves, photos will come up that look like your plants and you can go to the site and ID them that way. I've solved a few problems that way.

Ladybugs will do the trick with lots of pests- you can buy a bag of them at garden stores and they will go to town on the bugs on your plants! It's awesome.

Not sure about potato bugs, I've never dealt with them, but my brother had some in Iron Bridge, I'll see what he has figured out for them. As for slugs, go on a night mission, they will be easy to see and relocate them far, far away (or drown them if you're up for it). You can trap them with rocks and logs to find them and take care of them during the day. I've never had luck with the beer thing, but you can also keep tempting homes for them away from your garden- under pots and such. Copper wire works and there is organic slug bait that does the trick. Diomataceous earth is good but once it rains then not so much.
No idea about the roses, I don't know much about non-edible flowers but they still look pretty!!
